Evenings on Campus: World-renowned guitarists to perform at University by Luciano Borg

World-renowned guitarists Jimi Savage and Luigi Tessarollo will be performing at the University today as part of the Evenings on Campus 2007 events. The event, which is being held at the Atriju Vasalli (next to the fountain), kicks off at 8.30pm.

Jimi Savage has played with many celebrity guitarists like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen among others. He was awarded the RGT Guitar Tutor of the Year in 2005 and was a leading contributor to Total Guitar magazine. He has travelled throughout the world, performing in gigs, master class seminars, workshops and master sessions as a musician/guitarist and performing at many guitar shows. He will be performing with his band which is made up of Mark Conlin (vocals), John Dawson (Bass), Carl Thomson (Drums).

The Jimi Savage Band will be playing modern pop songs in their own style which consists of Latin grooves, Funk grooves, Rock grooves together with a hint of Jazz, and they will surely keep the audience entertained and captivated.

Luigi Tessarollo is a prominent figure in the Italian and international jazz scene, a guitarist and composer from Turin. He has performed in the US and in Europe, including the most important Italian Jazz Festivals. He has also collaborated, often in permanent projects, with some of the most prominent Italian jazz musicians and with numerous foreign artistes including Lee Konitz, Slide Hampton, George Garzone, Barry Harrys, Larry Schnider, Bob Gullotti, Hal Stein, Bob Porcelli, Douglas Yates and Matt Wilson.

He will be performing in a duo with Euro Institute director Mark Galea, who will also be launching his debut CD, My Journey, with his own band, the Marc Galea Electric Band.

The band will be playing Marc's own compositions and arrangements of the bands' influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock among others.

Last February, Jimi Savage performed in Malta with Mark Galea to a packed audience at St James Cavalier, Valletta. During the two-and-a-half-hour session, they entranced those present with a jamming session that included numbers by Jimi Hendrix, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder among others.
